Bryce Harper started the Nationals’ game against the Yankees with a beard. He would finish it cleanly shaved.
When Harper stepped to the plate for Washington’s game with New York on Monday, which was suspended from May 15, he looked like a different person. His beard was gone. It all happened in the past 24 hours.
While it’s unclear why Harper decided to shave, he’s in the middle of a serious slump at the plate. The Nationals star is hitting .198 since May with 49 strikeouts and a declining walk rate. It’s also 91 degrees and humid in Washington, and beards are uncomfortable in the summer.
Until the beard grows back, Monday marked the end of an era.
